Ashton, a 22-year-old, recently moved to Bishop Auckland. After settling in, he sought ways to integrate into the community and improve his employability.
Upon arrival, Ashton began engaging with the Prince’s Trust, an organisation focused on youth development. This provided him with initial support and helped him regain stability after his move.
Ashton was introduced to DurhamWorks. We continued where the Prince’s Trust left off, helping Ashton further his personal and professional development.
DurhamWorks assisted Ashton in several key areas:
CV Enhancement: Transitioned his CV from an outdated format to a more professional and presentable one.
Volunteering Opportunities: Guided him towards community engagement and volunteer work, significantly with the Auckland Project.
Skill Development: Enrolled in the Fit For Life course, which bolstered his practical skills, time management, and confidence.
Communication Skills: Improved his ability to interact and communicate effectively with others.
With DurhamWorks’ support, Ashton built a strong network within Bishop Auckland. His volunteering efforts led to a part-time job with the Auckland Project. Additionally, Ashton continues to participate in DurhamWorks activities, contributing to their youth forum every Tuesday.
David Curry, Young People’s Engagement Worker, noted Ashton’s significant improvement in confidence and his successful employment with the Auckland Project.
Michele Atkinson, Employer Engagement Officer, highlighted the role of DurhamWorks in helping Ashton with job applications and interview techniques, ensuring a successful fit in his new role.
Ashton’s journey illustrates the impact of targeted youth employment initiatives. Through comprehensive support in skill development, networking, and practical experience, DurhamWorks significantly advanced Ashton’s employability and confidence, setting him on a path towards a fulfilling career.
