Keir had difficulties expressing himself and had extremely low self-confidence and self-esteem. He loved gardening and DurhamWorks supported him to get his CSCS card and apply for a job with Durham County Council.
Keir struggles with his English and maths skills and had tried college but found that it didn’t suit him. He wanted a way to find a job, to earn money, whilst also improving his literacy and numeracy skills.
When Keir’s DurhamWorks advisor visited him at home, he explained his love of gardening and how he looks after the family allotment. He also said that he had been offered work if he could get a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card but that the job wasn’t exactly what he wanted.
Keir had tried a CSCS Card course previously but struggled with the lack of support he received. Keir’s DurhamWorks advisor helped him to find a training provider who could support him properly to get his CSCS Card.
Skills North-East found Keir a CSCS Card course with one-to-one support and help with his literacy and numeracy.
Keir’s DurhamWorks advisor heard about a Clean & Green Operative role with Durham County Council, made Keir aware of it and helped him to apply. After an interview and two day work trial, Keir was offered the job.
Keir is enjoying his new job and is feeling well supported by his colleagues.
