Groundwork Peer Mentors
Groundwork Peer Mentors can offer guidance, support, and form a positive one-to-one relationship with mentees on the DurhamWorks programme. Peer Mentors are of a similar age, share their life experience and the challenges they have faced with mentees. Support is mentee led - setting goals, what the support should look like and how often. For example support could range from a phone call once a week, to meeting for a coffee, going for a walk, or taking part in a hobby together etc.
Some examples of support for mentees:
Relate to mentee with own life experiences
Provide support in getting to know rapidly changing environments and the use of new technologies (Covid, digital skills gap)
Provide support for individuals who might be isolated or lack support and self- confidence
Someone to talk to in confidence
Help in completing forms
Support with practice tests i.e. CSCS
Help with job searching
Attend appointments
Attend training/traineeships/employment on public transport
Generate travel plans
Support with confidence building
