Why Choose a DurhamWorks Candidate

Here are just a few reasons why hundreds of County Durham businesses are already taking advantage of the scheme:

Each young person registered to the programme is assigned a dedicated progression worker who provides them with ongoing expertise and support in information, advice and guidance preparing them for entering the world of work.

Each candidate goes through a selection process with a dedicated Employment Engagement Officer to ensure suitability for each job role. Making the right match is the way to unlocking growth and success for both parties.

Young people can provide a fresh perspective and new ideas – which could unlock new opportunities or solve age-old problems within your organisation.

You have a hand in transforming a young person’s life by giving them the chance they need to fulfil their potential.

Kickstart Scheme

The Kickstart Scheme is available through DurhamWorks. It provides funding to employers to create new 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

This is part of the government’s Plan for Jobs and aims to create hundreds and thousands of new, fully funded jobs across England, Scotland and Wales. The first placements are likely to be available from November.

Funding will cover for each job placement:

  • 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week
  • the associated employer National Insurance contributions
  • employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

There will also be extra funding to support young people to build their experience and help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart Scheme funded job.

Young people can find out more about the Kickstart Scheme at the jobhelp site.
