Maddison secures employment with Codrophenia

Maddison Savage, 19 needed support into finding employment after completing a college course.

Maddison had already had some work experience in hospitality and was keen to put these skills into use. Maddison wanted help to approach employers, plus help with her CV. She also needed support in building her confidence, job search and interview skills as Maddison had been actively applying for jobs but not getting to interview.

After being referred into DurhamWorks, the Employment Engagement team had a several appointments with Maddison to review her CV, applications and provide support with job searches. She eventually had the confidence to apply for a role in hospitality and secured a interview. The team provided Maddison with interview preparation skills prior to her interview. Following interview she was offered the role with Codrophenia. Once started in her new role the team continue to provide in work support from a designated Employer Engagement Officer.

Jo Standen, DurhamWorks Employer Engagement Officer said, “Maddison’s confidence was quite low when she first came to DurhamWorks but following regular appointments with her, there was a significant change. We were thrilled when Maddison was offered the interview with Codrophenia and then offered the job. Maddison has become a valued member of their team and has received great support from Codrophenia to develop her skills within the business, but this has seen her confidence grow even more”.

Maddison said, “When I first went to DW my confidence was low and I was shy but that soon changed. DW has helped me to build my CV up using skills I had out into my CV. They also had a chat with me about what I was looking for like an apprenticeship or a permanent job. We went through different types of interview questions you might get asked. I got weekly Zoom calls and calls to talk more about what I was looking for in the industry whether it was retail to a call centre. They also rang me up when a job I was interested in came up if I wanted my CV forward and I did. I went for the interview the next day and got the job”.

“DurhamWorks also helped me with bus fares I needed to get there until I got my first wage or any job interview clothing. I now have a great job working with amazing people in a restaurant called Codrophenia and I couldn’t thank DurhamWorks enough for where I am now. No matter how low your confidence might be, you can achieve it too”.
