DurhamWorks Helping employers expand their workforce with a £2,500 grant

DurhamWorks is supporting unemployed young people aged 16 – 24 to secure employment by providing small businesses with a salary grant of up to £2,500.

Using the grant, the DurhamWorks team have secured employment for 50 young people in the last 12 months and helped employers to expand their workforce.

Gateway Wheelers in Hetton-Le-Hole employed Anthony Beach with the help of the DurhamWorks grant. The team supported Sarah, the manager at Gateway Wheelers, through the grant application process. Once the grant was approved, Sarah was able to recruit Anthony, a DurhamWorks participant, to the role of Business Administrative Assistant.

Sarah from Gateway Wheelers said, “The amount that Anthony has come on has been amazing really, you can see him getting more confident. Its amazing the knowledge that he holds”.

The DurhamWorks team continue to work with both Sarah and Anthony to ensure that they receive all the help, support and training required to guarantee that Anthony’s employment will be a success.

Julie Gowland, one of the Work Experience Officers at DurhamWorks said, “We can support employers through the recruitment process, from advertising the vacancy, finding the right young person for the role, to supporting the employer with the grant application and claims process”.

“Once the young person has started with an employer, I will contact both the young person and employer at the end of their first week to see if any support or training is needed. I then keep in touch with the young person and the employer over a period of time to make sure that the job is going well”.

If you are a small business, the DurhamWorks grant could help you employ talented young people who can add value to your company. Our team offers support to ensure you find the right young person for your business.
