Abigail secures Apprenticeship with Durham County Council

Abigail Peacock, 19, applied for an apprenticeship with Durham County Council to build on her skills and experience. She had struggled to find employment due to having travel and childcare issues, but the team at DurhamWorks were able to provide her with the support she needed to secure her apprenticeship.

Abigail said, "When I signed up to DurhamWorks, I wanted to improve my confidence in terms of speaking with people and also my time management skills. I had barriers to travelling to and from work plus I have children so I had to secure childcare before I could find a role for me".

Abigail has achieved a number of qualifications whilst on her apprenticeship and now feels she has the confidence to speak to people. She said, "I feel that I am learning more, and this allows me to do the job more effectively. I am more confident now than I was before I started this apprenticeship, I think this will help me a lot in the future especially when working full time".

Karen, Abigail's line manager said, "Abigail has been a welcome addition to the Team.  Abi will ask if she needs anything clarifying and remains confident with her own voice offering up suggestions to improve things; all ideas are listened to.  She is always cheerful, positive, professional and helpful, supporting the team with a range of administrative tasks and responds to emails promptly.  She has also developed systems and manages to work full time and support her young son.  As a whole team we will continue to support Abi in her role and undoubted onward successes".

If you are like Abi and require some support in overcoming barriers of travel, childcare, or require some well being support contact the team today.
