This unique training package offers key insights to a new up and coming industry, with lots job opportunities across the North East & Yorkshire. Retro fitting is high priority in the region and local councils are looking for young, talented individuals to train, gain employment and complete this important construction work. Retro fitting is about the future. Making our homes more energy efficient, is very important work and we need you to make our homes better. In this training you will gain valuable skills to be employed in this growing industry. Vital skills such as handling power tools do, hazardous substances, health and safety at work, waste disposal, CSCS card and the importance of team work and having the necessary skills to succeed in life. There are lots of employment opportunities with local councils, further training and steps into similar industry to help you go far in your career.
Week One
Day 1
Session 1- Green Skills – Carbon Sense, the aim of this session is to give young people information and support around Carbon Literacy. To help young people understand how they can make small changes with minimal cost.

Day 2
Session 2 – Green Skills - Friendly Finance this session will support young people to understand how to manage their finance now as well as when they move into employment.
Living on a budget
Understanding Essential bills
Banking online: overdrafts charges
In work benefits: understanding entitlement; where to find the information; support in calculating the figures and completing forms
Rental and credit agreements
Understanding the costs of going into work
Day 3
Session 3 - Introduction to Understanding Retro Fit; to explore links to CSCS, what other green jobs are out there and how young people can increase their awareness of the required skills.
The aim of this learning outcome is to provide the learners with the knowledge to identify the main types of documents used in domestic retrofit, typical organisational structures and different types of information and how it is used. The learner must:
Identify the main types of documents used in the domestic retrofit industry
Organisational structures – roles
Domestic retro fit information and where it is obtained from
Week 2
Day 1
Session 4; Be able to interpret health and safety information.
The aim of this learning outcome is to provide the learners with the knowledge to identify the current legislation applicable to domestic retrofit, how to respond to emergencies and typical reporting procedures.

Be able to identify the materials required for work activities in domestic retrofit. The aim of this learning outcome is to provide the learners with the knowledge to identify the key characteristics for domestic retrofit resources, how resources are selected and how to ensure they conform to specifications. The learner must:
State the key characteristics of the materials used in domestic retrofit
Explain how to ensure that materials conform to specifications.
Day 2
Session 5; Be able to identify the risk of damage to the work and the surrounding area. The aim of this learning outcome is to provide the learners with the knowledge to keep a work area clean and tidy and protect the surrounding work area from damage and how to legally dispose of waste. The learner must:
Explain why it is important to maintain a safe, clear and tidy work area
State how to dispose of waste in accordance with current legislation
Describe how to protect work and its surrounding area from damage and adverse weather conditions
Be able to understand the basic principles for domestic retrofit installations.
The aim of this learning outcome is to enable learners to understand the basic principles for domestic retrofit, including pre-installation requirements, installation details and installation problems. The learner must:
Explain how to carry out basic external and internal pre-installation checks in regard to domestic retrofit
List the basic general building defects
Describe how methods of work for domestic retro fit are carried out
basic sequencing for the installation of energy efficiency measures
typical problems associated with domestic retrofit installations
how to identify when specialist help is required
Day 3
Session 6: Be able to understand how to carry out basic domestic retrofit installations
The aim of this learning outcome is to provide the learners with the basic knowledge of how to install insulation to internal and external solid walls, cavity walls, roofs, suspended and solid floors and windows and doors. The learner must:
State the importance of team work and communication
Explain how to carry out work skills when installing internal insulation systems
Explain how to use and maintain hand tools, portable power tools and ancillary equipment
Describe the processes for preparing and installing domestic retrofit systems

Session 9 – Digital Skills – to ensure all young people are equipped with key digital skills at a pivotal stage in their lives, responding to a need identified through recent observations, comments, and consultation with young people, employers, educators and partners across the youth employment sector. A get together for all of the young people involved to reflect and celebrate what they have achieved during the programme.
